break the mold, own YOUR unique expression,
create a revolution with your body
Reclaim the freedom to dance in your own way, in your own body exactly as it is right now…
...because you KNOW deep down that once you dance, you’ll feel freer, more like yourself, and more empowered to move confidently through your life.
...and doing ^THAT is in itself an act of rebellion and an "F you" to the systems and outdated structures that want to keep us locked in our heads, part of "the machine," scared, and dependent on consumerism to "fix" things.
You’ll leave with more confidence in yourself and more clarity on exactly how you want to continue dancing through your life.
You’ll be reminded that movement in your body will catalyze movement in your life.
Join us for this 2-hour experience to free-up what’s blocking you and restore your dancing spirit and self-expression through a combination of facilitated dancing, writing, sharing, and collaborative creation with the group.
whether it's been forever (or never) since you've taken a dance class, you will:
collaborate with a diverse community of dancers who see you, encourage you, and accept you exactly as you are
awaken latent creative energy within you
eliminate feelings of competitiveness, inadequacy, or negative body image
use dance as a vehicle for igniting more confidence, power, rebellion, and freedom in your life
WE WELCOME EVERYONE…
From all types of dance backgrounds. From all levels of dance experience (including – none). This is not about learning one particular dance style. It’s about connecting to your own authentic movement (which may or may not be influenced by previous training) and gaining inspiration from the other diverse dancers who take part.
about the facilitators:
Jess Grippo is an award-winning dancer, writer, creativity coach, TEDx speaker, and the creator of You Can Dance Again. Although she went through 10 years of classical ballet training and received a B.A. from NYU in psychology, she left the more traditional dance and academic worlds to create her own career path. Her work is about guiding people back into dance: for self-reinvention, for reinvention of our world, and for reconnection to the power in our bodies. She enjoys making dance videos in the most random places, often with random strangers, as well as making shows on actual stages. She is currently writing her first book, Dance With This Book: A Guide to Start Dancing (And Living) On Your Terms. Join her Creative Fridays community for a weeklyish nudge (via email) for your creative soul:
Cate Prefontaine Hausmann is a proud founding member of You Can Dance Again. Over the past few years in partnership with Jess, Cate has reconnected with her creativity and passion for writing, art, dancing and choreography. When Cate is not dancing, she serves as English Language Arts Director for a network of elementary and middle schools in Manhattan and the Bronx and has previously worked as a teacher, coach, administrator and consultant in schools around the United States. She loves to dance with her husband Kevin and to bring the gift of dance into the lives of family, friends, and even perfect strangers through teaching and taking classes, making dance videos and performing whenever possible. Cate is dancing again because it brings her joy. She gives herself permission to do what she loves.
